College of Arts and Humanities
Gilah Yelin Hirsch, professor of art emerita, is exhibiting work at UCLA Hillel in a group exhibition called Artists for Humanity. The show will take place until June 14, with all proceeds going to aid victims of the Gaza War.
Rik Noyce, lecturer of music, wrote “Communicate with Confidence” for Babel Flute, an international flute magazine and community. Noyce’s article explores the meaning and role of confidence in live music performance, and posits that musicians should consider their unique point of view as a confidence to be communicated to their audience.
College of Continuing and Professional Education
Milton Krivokuca, quality assurance program coordinator and instructor, was named 2024 Quality Professional of the Year by Quality magazine due to his deep knowledge of management, auditing, engineering, Six Sigma, supply chains, and calibration.
Dean of the College of Continuing and Professional Education Kim McNutt was also quoted in Krivokuca’s profile, saying: “We really cater to the adult professional and working professional. He has embraced that.”
College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences
Professor of Biology Terry McGlynn was named a 2024 Fellow by the Ecological Society of America in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of ecology. McGlynn has expanded understanding of social insects and the biology of non-indigenous species, and he has worked for equity, broadening representation, and evidence-based teaching and mentoring practices within the CSU. His election as an ESA Fellow is for life.
Professor and Chair of Physics John Price was elected to the chair line of the Far West Section (FWS) of the American Physical Society, which advances physics through research journals, scientific meetings, education, outreach, advocacy, and international activities.
The FWS brings together physicists in California, Nevada, and Hawaii to promote collaborative efforts among members, as well as share experiences and best practices affecting physics departments across the region. In his upcoming term, Price plans to work to help physics departments combat declining enrollments, and anticipates that his position will increase the visibility of the CSUDH Physics Department at the state, regional, and national level.
